FAQs

Q: Can I buy a different model?  Can I purchase one of those small, personal refrigerators?  Can I get a different color?

A: In order to get the lowest price and to simplify the program, we are limiting purchases to one model in one color - a 17.6 cubic foot white Kenmore refrigerator.  If you are interested in purchasing a different model, please email brightgreenenergy@lists,berkeley.edu and describe what model you want to purchase.  The program may be expanded in the future and you will be added to our database of other interested participants.

Q: What if I have enough funding to purchase a different brand/model from another supplier? Will my purchase qualify for the rebate?

A: No, only the model purchased through Sears is eligible for the rebate program.

Q: I have a deli case that I use in my lab – can I get a rebate if I replace it?

A: At this time, we are not offering the rebate to other types of appliances, but please email brightgreenenergy [at] lists [dot] berkeley [dot] edu to be added to our database of participants interested in future programs.

Q: Will the program be extended beyond November?

A: The program is currently a pilot, but the campus will evaluate whether to extend the program based on interest levels.

Q: Can I replace more than one refrigerator in my department?

A: Yes, although we are limited to only 100 refrigerators for this pilot phase.

Q: I bought a refrigerator last month, Can I still get the refund and participate in the program?

A: No.  The rules of the incentive program do not allow us to offer the rebate to purchases made before the start date of November 2, 2009.

Q: Can I get the rebate for decommissioning a fridge if I’m not buying a new one?

A: At this time, the program is restricted to trade-ins, but please email brightgreenenergy@lists,berkeley.edu to be added to our database of participants interested in future programs.

Q: I want to add a refrigerator to our break room – can I get the rebate if I’m not getting rid of a fridge?

A: Please contact brightgreenenergy [at] berkeley [dot] edu to get added to a database of interested participants for possible future refund programs.

Q: What will be the cost to me?

A: The initial cost per refrigerator will be $550 (with bluCard), but departments will receive a rebate of $275 by January 2010.  The net cost to you is $275, inclusive of tax, delivery and removal of the old refrigerator.

Q: Can I participate if I don’t have a bluCard?

A: No.
