Information about Bidding

Information contained in your quotation is confidential and remains so until a purchase order is issued by Procurement Services. No alterations, amendments, or negotiations are permitted with suppliers prior to award.

About posted opportunities:

Competitive bidding is performed for any purchase of a common good or service valued at $50,000 or more that the University has deemed may be available from at least three sources. Competitive bid solicitations over $50,000 are posted. These solicitations are available until the associated purchase order or contract has been issued or the solicitation has been cancelled. For additional UC postings, see Other Opportunities.

If you want to be considered for bidding opportunities:

  • Direct your inquiries to campus buyers and the campus departments appropriate to the commodities you supply. Use the campus on-line directory at the UC Berkeley Homepage to find specific people. UCB's Communications & Networking Services has more information regarding the campus directory that will be helpful to you.
  • Use the Campus Buyer assignment list to identify Campus Buyers and which campus departments they serve. Campus Buyers can also help identify Department Buyers interested in your products or services.

Since there is no formal bidders' list, many purchasers tend to seek quotes from sources that have been successful in associating their company name with a commodity. You can improve your chances for consideration by:

  • periodically contacting customers and telling them of your continued interest in their requirements
  • responding promptly to their bid requests

Your past performance does affect how you will be considered for future bidding. Factors that can affect whether you will receive future bid requests are:

  • Failure to respond to bid requests
  • Consistent high pricing
  • Non-acceptance of University terms and conditions
  • Failure to perform satisfactorily on past orders
  • Filing of frivolous bid protests
